Cesaro def. Jack Swagger
Cesaro and Swagger have very good matches whenever they clash and this was no different. There wasn't much storyline support behind this bout, but having history with each other certainly helped. They were given an ample amount of time and they made the most of it with their excellent chemistry. Cesaro needs wins more than Swagger does right now, but I'd like to see both guys involved in something of note sooner rather than later. They're both too talented to be put to waste.
Tyson Kidd def. Kofi Kingston
Words can't describe how excited I am to finally see Kidd being utilized on the main roster. He's been overlooked for far too long and it's about time he got his due. I'm glad to see him in the ring and not just as a manger for Natalya and/or Rosa Mendes. He's been doing the best work of his career on NXT as of late and I hope that success translates to the main roster. As expected, he and Kingston worked a fun match given their similar styles. I was pleasantly surprised to see Kidd win clean as I figured Kingston would go over. Could Kidd finally be getting his long awaited push as a singles competitor?
Brie Bella def. Layla and Summer Rae in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match
It was fine for what it was, but nothing great, of course. There were some sloppy spots, but they pulled together a passable bout. It was a logical follow-up to Brie's Handicap match from Raw and I like how she's actually winning her matches when Nikki couldn't many months ago. I'm still no fan of this feud, but Brie is so much better when she isn't called upon to act or speak. This use of the former Divas Champion is perfect. I never thought I'd want a Diva to not get mic time, but Brie is a rare exception.
Bo Dallas def. Mark Henry by Disqualification
I didn't expect much of a match between these two, but as an angle, it worked. Henry dominated most of the match as he should have, only to go too far and get himself disqualified. Henry's post-match attack on Dallas furthered his apparent heel turn well and it gave Dallas another fluky win. How much more would these victories over The World's Strongest Man have meant if Dallas was still undefeated?
It may not look like it on paper, but this was an above-average edition of Main Event. Cesaro vs. Swagger was well-wrestled, Kidd made his in-ring re-debut, Brie's match wasn't completely meaningless and the main event planted the seeds for Henry's heel turn nicely. I wish we would get more shows like this where everything featured serves a purpose. It was an enjoyable hour and I'd like to hope that this will be the turning point for the Tuesday night program.
