By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Batista Interrupted Triple H Triple H and/or Stephanie McMahon always open Raw, so the fact that was the case yet again here didn't excite me much. However, it ended up being a stronger segment than I initially expected it to be. Everyone involved played their roles well and the shots they took at one another rang true. The anger all three showed in their promos (especially toward Daniel Bryan) was good and the announcement of HHH possibly being entered into the WWE World Heavyweight title match at WrestleMania 30 made his match with Bryan more intriguing. The Real Americans def. WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos (Non-title) These two teams have always worked well together and this match was no exception. It was given good times and the action was enjoyable from start to finish. The finishing sequence was very well done and I liked that The Real Americans went over clean. The Usos lose nothing in defeat and this puts The Real Americans in contention for the straps going into WrestleMania. I like that Cesaro and Jack Swagger are sticking together for just a little bit longer, but if I had to guess, the split between the two will come at 'Mania or the next night on Raw.

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Triple H Addressed the "YES!" Movement This was a pretty standard segment and a logical following from the Occupy Raw segment from this week's Raw. Triple H played his role well and succeeded in coming off as a complete jerk, a role he plays oh so well. The way he called out Damien Sandow was interesting, and I'm starting to think that Sandow is in the midst of a character change. Perhaps it's time for him to go from Hunter Hearst Helmsley to the anti-authority D-Generation X version of Triple H. Seth Rollins def. Damien Sandow I was highly intrigued by this match on paper given that both Rollins and Sandow are technically heels at the moment, but after watching the opening segment, I have a feeling Sandow will be the one to go face first. The match itself was well wrestled and felt fresh given how we had yet to see these two face off. Sure, it's another loss for Sandow, but it at least appears WWE is finally going to be doing something with him going forward. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Alberto Del Rio def. Sin Cara This is a match we have seen countless times in the past, but they were given a decent amount of time here. Plus, they almost always work well together, so I didn't mind it as much. Sin Cara was able to get in a few of his signature spots and the finishing sequence was well done. The loss didn't do much to harm Cara since he can't get any lower on the card than he already is, but it isn't like the win boosted Del Rio's credibility, either. Del Rio won't be involved in anything meaningful at WrestleMania while I don't expect Cara to be on the card at all. Dolph Ziggler def. Fandango Similar to Del Rio and Cara, Ziggler and Fandango always work well together and it was nice to see them get more time than they normally would on Raw or SmackDown. The momentum shifted back and forth between the two competitors throughout the bout and both Ziggler and Fandango looked good coming out of it. The crowd was very much into Ziggler, which made the match all the more fun. It was a nice win for Ziggler even if Fandango doesn't mean much at the moment. By Graham "GSM" Matthews NXT Women's Champion Paige def. Sasha Banks (Non-title) It was a very good match by WWE Divas' standards, but a relatively good match by NXT women's wrestling standards. It's no secret that Paige and Banks can go in the ring and they have nice chemistry together, but there wasn't much of a story to the match nor did it receive much time. If nothing else, the new submission finisher that Paige is now using is a sight to see. It's just hard to get excited about a feud between a potential Paige-Charlotte feud since Charlotte is still very green in the ring. I'm sure Paige will carry her to a passable match, but Charlotte simply isn't ready for this kind of push yet. NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension def. Travis Tyler and Cal Bishop (Non-title) You've seen one Ascension squash match, you've seen them all. It's so ricdiclous to the point where it's comical how many times The Ascension have faced local athletes in the last two years. This is relatively new to those who just started watching NXT on the WWE Network but extremely tiresome to everyone else. They quality of the matches hasn't changed at all, but at least the Full Sail University is reacting to them now by chanting "YAH!" constantly, which is hysterical. Needless to say, The Ascension needs new challengers for their titles. |
