By Graham "GSM" Matthews Ryback Interrupted The Authority I hate to sound like a broken record, but man, I really hope Sunday marks the end of The Authority so we don't have to sit through this drawn out promo segments anymore at the start of Raw. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were good on the mic per usual, but it would have been better if we heard from each member of Team Authority to switch it up a bit. Ryback's promo was interesting in that he's only out for himself, but he's still over with the audience. I like that he's his own entity and isn't associating himself with anyone as of now. Luke Harper def. Dolph Ziggler to Win the Intercontinental Championship I couldn't remember a time where these two went one-on-one before now, so the match felt fresh and they worked well together. Ziggler getting attacked by members of The Authority beforehand gave him an out for losing, though I do have to question why they didn't wait until TLC to give the gold to Harper. Regardless, it's great to see Harper receiving a strong singles push right out of the gate, but how sad is it that he won a singles title before Bray Wyatt?

By Graham "GSM" Matthews Ethan Carter III and Rockstar Spud Introduced the Knockouts It's painfully apparent that TNA, the commentary team and the talent don't care about these One Night Only shows based on how they act, leading me to question why they bother holding them to begin with. ECIII and Spud were funny in their roles, but Mike Tenay and Taz cracking jokes (or at least attempting to) ruined it for this viewer. If nothing else, I liked how they introduced viewers to each of the aspiring Knockouts, something I don't believe they did with last year's event. Gail Kim def. Veda Scott Though I'm familiar with Scott through her Ring of Honor work, I had never actually seen her work before this match. Kim is capable of getting a good match out of anyone she works with and this was no exception. Scott had a nice showing and she'd be a good pickup by TNA at some point (when they can find the money to hire new talent, that is). By Graham "GSM" Matthews Chris Jericho Hosted 'The Highlight Reel' with The Authority Why wasn't this treated like a bigger deal beforehand? I know they hyped it up on Monday's Raw a bit, but Jericho's WWE return should have felt like a bigger deal (even though he's been gone from TV for all of two months). Despite that, it was a very solid segment with all three individuals shining on the mic. Jericho has always had awesome chemistry with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon on the mic and The Authority played their heel role well. It was a nice little boost to the big multi-man main event at Survivor Series. Bray Wyatt def. Sin Cara Anyone who watches Main Event regularly saw this exact same match last week, so while it was repetitive, it was effective in furthering Wyatt's momentum. The real focus was on the post-match promo from Wyatt and Dean Ambrose which was really good. It didn't make sense for Ambrose to not just exit the ring and attack Wyatt, but I'll let that one slide. The rest of their interactions throughout the night were also excellent and it finally feels like a feud between the two is underway. Hopefully this can translate to Raw. |
